Week of 10/15/23 Progress!

Hello! We have been making so much progress here at the Swampy Seed Farm. Over the past few weeks, we have seen enormous growth in our cucumbers, sunflowers, buckwheat, zinnias, okra, and basil. In this post, we will be focusing on some of this growth as well as where we are going from here.
Here is a photo of our first harvest of cucumbers. Our initial harvest included 16 cucumbers. We had 4 dark green cucumbers and 12 light green cucumbers. They are continuing to flower and produce rapidly. The height of the cucumber plants is exceeding our expectations.

Here is a photo of one of our blooming sunflowers. They are magnificent with their dark red color and leafy green leaves. They attract lots of pollinators such as butterflies and bees. We have two growing sunflowers at the moment and we expect them to continue to bud and flourish.

Here is a beautiful photo of our zinnias with a butterfly on it!! These zinnias attract all the beneficial insects and pollinators and have added such beautiful color to the farm. They are surrounded by our budding buckwheat that has now flowered. The stark contrast between the white flowering buckwheat and the rainbow zinnias is stunning.

Here is a photo of our buckwheat with another beautiful butterfly on it. Our buckwheat has been proliferating. It has done its job of outcompeting weeds. It has fostered a healthy environment for insects and added freshness to the farm. The weeds have not encroached on our farm due to the buckwheat.
Here is a photo of our corn! We are starting to produce baby corn. As you can see here we have the corn hair and small kernels developing. This is so cool to see and we are all excited to enjoy some fresh corn for the fall season.
