Week of 11/20/23 Progress!

Hello everyone! Welcome back to our blog! This week we had some exciting advancements. We have ripe strawberries, plenty of flowers, broccoli growing, pole bean growth, carrots, and tomatoes finally!! We hope you enjoy these photos and little updates about Swampy Seed Farm.
Here is a fresh ripe strawberry. The red color is just magnificent and they are some of the sweetest strawberries we have eaten. We are having some issues with fruit flies eating parts of the strawberries. About half of the strawberry has been slightly eaten. We will need to find a remedy to this solution because we want to enjoy as many strawberries as possible.

Here are more of our beautiful flowers. Pictured here are bright pink zinnias and sunflowers. We are still reaping the benefits of these wonderful flowers. The zinnias are about to reach the end of their season so we are harvesting as many as possible.

Tomatoes finally! Our tomato plants struggled to grow at first because of the herbicide issue in the hay. Their growth was stunted and they weren't flowering. Now they are thriving. The herbicide has been removed for about 7 weeks and they are starting to produce. They have tripled in size and there are hundreds of green baby tomatoes. We are excited for them to ripen.

Pictured here is the start of a broccoli head! We intercropped the broccoli with the strawberries and with the cool weather they have been growing exponentially. The little buds of broccoli are so cool to see and we are excited to harvest in a couple weeks.

Here we have the first baby carrot of the season. This was pulled prematurely because it was near two other carrots. The thinning process is necessary for carrots so they can grow to their full potential. In a week or two these will be ready to eat.

Shown here are pole beans. Earlier in the season we had cucumbers planted here and they gave us tons of yield. We are excited to see these beans grow up the trellises.

Thank you for following us for another week.
